News from Carson City Nevada is that transportation officials there have decided on raising the speed maximum speed limit in Nevada from 75 mph to 80 miles per hour. Though this change only affects a specific rural stretch of Interstate 80 in Western Nevada, other highways and the remaining stretch of interstate 80 in eastern Nevada are not be affected at this time.
Not All Highways Are Affected
According to the department, the new top legal speed limit will be in affect as soon as new signs are able to be posted. Expectations are that new speed limit signs could be up as soon as mid-May. Drivers should note that the 130-mile section of highway affected stretches from Fernley Nevada to Winnemucca. Other sections of Nevada's wide open highways may be included in the future. This will be a great releaf to anyone who has traveled on Nevada's expansive stretches of pavement, as some sections can extend well over the horizon, sometimes it seems for hours.
