Just outside the Las Vegas Valley and along the well known stretch of highway that visitors take to visit the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, lies is Boulder City. Founded as a town to house the many workers constructing the nearby dam, Boulder City is in many ways a remnant of an earlier and simpler time. There is no gambling in the town, again a carry over the it's original days as a home for dam workers, and Boulder City runs at a slower pace than neighboring Las Vegas and even Henderson. Downtown Boulder City looks something like a remnant from the glory days of Route 66. And in the middle of this quaint little down lies one of the best known secrets in the area, The Coffee Cup Cafe. Locally famous for it's excellent down home food and service, and world famous for being featured on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.
Food This Good Is Hard To Find Round These Parts
First of all, before we even get to the pork chili omelette, we would be remiss in not mentioning that the Coffee Cup serves an excellent Bloody Mary garnished with a think piece of crispy bacon. It's almost like a breakfast in a glass. And speaking of breakfast, this place serves it up home-style with really fresh ingredients that are cooked by people who love what they do. It's hard to find a restaurant where everything on the menu is either a home recipe or something created specifically to satisfy customer requests. The food and the atmosphere literally scream small town quality. You might think you're at a busy roadside cafe somewhere in New Mexico, except there is no highway outside. You're in the middle of downtown Boulder City, where peace and quite reigns most of the time. We absolutely love the pork chili verde omelette. Made famous on the TV Network, this one is a staple at the Coffeee Cup and remains our favorite to this day. However, everything we've every tried here is great. The Breakfast/Lunch menu is literally overflowing with excellent choices.
Then There Is Downtown Boulder City And Hoover Dam
This town is a historic place and worth exploring. Once you've had your fill at The Coffee Cup, be sure to set aside some time for checking out the nearby stores and the town itself. There are many interesting stores up and down the boulevard and much to see in the Boulder City historic distric nearby. Many visitors will plan a trip the Boulder City as part of their visit to Hoover Dam. Either stopping by before or after your dam visit is a great choice and offers a nice rest stop slong the way. The trip to Las Vegas is about 30~35 minutes depending on traffic.
